I won't be home until mid-October...just hoping things stay decent and it's not frozen by then. Didn't get out at all last year, but I'm hoping to fix that this year.

I hope to be getting out soon. Matt Keller has hung up skulling almost 90 now. I don’t think there’s are anyone left sculling in Ca.
Best Wishes and good hunting. Rick Breaux

I bought a boat after last season and spent some time during spring fixing it up. So far so good. Been getting some good birds my first season out with it.

I have been watching the weather looks like it’s starting to freeze up every night up in northern Ca. Guys shooting on the club are still mainly killing divers, teal and spoonies. I hope to see some birds coming down soon. I love gadwalls, widgeon, mallards, pintails and teals not necessarily in that order. Watching the tides and bird movement. My friend of over 25 years that I fished with and hunted upland birds, waterfowl and big game died from a stroke this week. Wow! The last four years I have had 4 friends die and 3 move out of state. It’s tough finding good friends to hunt with. On the plus side the three neighborhood boys I taught to hunt when they were 12-13 years old now are teaching their sons 12-13 to hunt. We just had a reunion together it was great seeing pictures of their sons hunting. Happy Hunting!

My dad (75) and I (54) made it out in mid October in Northeastern California. Water was scant in some places, but we found a couple spots to get the boats in. First morning dad got on the specs, and ended up with five on the deck. We finished out with those specs and a few greenheads and sprig. Bird numbers seemed way down where we hit, but there really hadn't been any weather further up north at that point. Need to get the boat out again!

Well folks the ole Marshrat is still around. Been a Desert Rat lately spending November in the Mojave. Birding, hiking the slot canyons and the Mountains. Plently of birds seen in and around Wister where I use to scull in the 60's. Probably be a tough go to launch there now? Made it back up here to the PNW after a stop over at Sacto NWR. Tons of waterfowl, i.e. snows, speckels and yes a pair of blue phase snows and a pair of blue wings. Good luck this season, stay safe.
