Hi ive been sculling here in the PNW for probably 15 years. I am mainly a collector, focusing on unique birds for taxidermy instead of just shooting ducks. Unfortunately I really don’t interact much, trying to stay under the radar. I only know a few guys around that even have sculls. It probably doesn’t even matter anymore since most hunters seem to have no interest other than shooting or “limiting “. The PNW can be easy at times, and very challenging at others. It’s not too difficult finding birds, but tides, winds, humans and access add to the challenge. I’m thinking I might take a road trip some January to some other states. California scares me with all the people and the salt would have similar issues as the PNW. I know there must be lots of birds south of here other than Mexico. Utah and the Salt Lake is cool but could be frozen. There has to be some action on the impoundments of the Colorado river or the Rio Grande river. I’m thinking warmer states may have less wind and better access but that may be just a dream. Am I just dreaming?

Which species are you wanting for your collection?
Perhaps Cinnimon or blue winged teal? Need any of the divers? What about geese? Brant, or even a blue goose? I could even steer you to a black duck if you want to meet up with a friend of mine on east coast.

I don’t really “need” to shoot anything. Looking for something fun, new and adventurous. Cans, cinnamons or bwt I have a quail hunt booked for Jan ‘24 in AZ. Want to check out Rio Grande impoundments in NM and maybe Colorado river on AZ CA border. Looks live lots of opportunity to scull? Im guessing these areas don’t see many scullers.
