Well Gentlemen, It has been quite some time since I have been on here to see whats going on.
Seems like that's just it not much and how sad that is. It is a great site to air out your sculling needs and uses.
But as we or most of us have seen is, Sculling has became a lost art and those whom still scull have less and less to say.
whether it be not wanting to give up any secrets or as most just want to keep it to yourself.
We can write anything we want about sculling, How too! that's a pretty tall issue we all should know by now those are all words. unless your on the water learning where does it all go? Nowhere, they have to get out and just do it and there is where the problem starts.. Time and lots of it, then everything else that goes along with it.
Most just don't want to take the time to learn all there is to know as Boats get set aside and not used.
I'm thinking hard on Building a few scull oars old Humboldt Bay Pattern Oars. The same as Gordon MacIntosh once made off my old original Nellist oar that I had for quite a number of years.
They are a flexible Oar 4 ft long X 3 7/8 inch wide blade and a 6 ft handle. over all approx 10 ft long. I don't know any whom want to take the time to build scull oars as the time involved and labor intense. But with my year done and instead of sitting I thought i'd build a few oars if i have any interest. I don't and never have like a real stiff oar as they are not becoming at all along with the rock they create and a limber oar is much easier to use.
Gordon Made many oars back in the day and those whom wanted a stiff oar always came back after trying a more limber oar and made the change.
My Oars blades are all spliced to the handle dowled and glassed. But we will see if we get any interest as mentioned sculling is on its way out and the few left are old die hard like myself whom just wont give up the art we all love so dearly.. I scull much less then I used to, don't eat the number of birds, spend my time on the water being very meticulous on what I shoot ans usually only kill one or maybe 2 from a flock keeping me on the water for a longer period of time. In other words I want to enjoy the day and all that sculling has to give. Each and every time I'm on the water in today's world is another day that I wonder how much longer I'll be able to enjoy all that sculling has give me. I'll push it until I cant push it any longer,
the days I'm out there enjoying and taking it all in are the days I'll cherish.
Sure would be nice to see the site Pop with enthusiasm even if its not only just about Sculling But Duck hunting in General. As much as us Old timers love the art of Sculling doesn't mean we don't love shooting over a good decoy spread either.
I Sometime wonder if it were not just a sculler forum and just mabe duck hunters and sculler Forum if it would not attract more to the site?? I knowTime is an issue for many but on those weary
days with nothing going on it would be nice to see a few more gather and BS about there hunts, deeks Boats There Sculls. etc! Well Gentlemen enough said. all enjoy your Day,Month, and year. Good hunting shooting.. Hunter72
