Hello,
I have been one of the absent scullers from the board...sorry about that. My excuse is simple, for the last 16 years I have been living in Kauai and not only are there very few ducks there, there is no open season for waterfowl either!
But I have moved to southwestern Colorado in my dotage (finally retired at 70) and will be sculling soon again. My float is at my daughters home in Metairie, LA and I will be going there in a week or so to pick it up.
I visited Matt last year with the thought of buying one of his great very lightweight boats, but since I wanted to hunt with my rambunctious Lab a small, much more sensitive boat did not seem too clever. By the way Matt, thank you for your time and kindness in showing me your very cool floats last year.
I will need to do some exploring for places to scull here in Colorado or New Mexico that are not frozen solid. The whole ice thing is new to me and my Lab, and will take some getting acclimated to.
As near as I can tell the closest place with open water (i.e. not FROZEN)may be out near Pueblo which is about a 5 hour drive. So perhaps I can scull while I am New Orleans and scout out Colorado when I get back.
If any one has any suggestions on sculling in winter here in Colorado/New Mexico please let me know. No secret spots wanted................ just a general area to check out would be great. Best, Bill

Hi There oldbillfish As You already know its never to old to get back into sculling.. I'm 73 and still going strong and keep that scull oar wiping. I hunt colorado for Bucks each and every year and have for about 15 yrs now. Boy when Late october gets here and the snow starts to fall, things in Colorado start to freeze and gets very, very cold. I have spoken to some locals and of coarse most have never heard of a scull so that conversation went no where lol. But! what they did say finding or knowing of a few hot springs really bring in the Mallard and some very good shoots along the rivers. we hunt around eagle and Vail Colorado and the local duck hunts from what I understand can get pretty exciting. You have a good Lab the way it sounds so maybe getting into some good decoy hunts might work also.. I don't know when Colorado duck seasons start as I'm in Oregon and just hunt bucks in Colorado but willing when I get a chance to chat about Ducks Im there lol. I would think in October before the snow really hit the lakes or reservoirs might have some Birds around. An old sculler like yourself I'm sure will locate birds and a place to drop a boat in for a few scull. Good Luck and happy hunting in CO. sculler72
